Pro-stamped controllers are now common on PS5, but which one should you choose? Each of them has its strengths and weaknesses. At Phonandroid, we have selected three to guide you in your choices: the DualSense Edge, the SCUF Reflex and the Razer Wolverine v2 Pro.
Some PS5 players can’t make do with the DualSense Classic controller. The so-called “Pro” pads, in fact, bring more advantages for fans of competitive games.whether it’s additional buttons, optimal comfort or very advanced customization options
Many manufacturers have released their own vision of the “professional” controller dedicated to Sony’s console. Pads that are often very expensive, over 200 euros. For this price, the buyer expects something impeccable and can sometimes hesitate between two very distinct models.
At Phonandroid, we have tested the three most popular in order to guide you in your choice. The goal is not to determine which is the best, since they all have their qualities, but to take an overview of their strengths and weaknesses in order to guide you as best as possible. In the ring we have the DualSense Edge, Sony’s official controller. Opposite are the SCUF Reflex as well as Razer Wolverine V2 Pro. All three are sold between 200 euros and 300 euros and offer their vision of the perfect pad.
Before starting, let us specify that these controllers are above all dedicated at high level play. They therefore do not target “classic” players who just want to have a good time watching God of War Ragnarok or Horizon Forbidden West, but those who want to destroy everything in competitive games like Fortnite, Warzone or FIFA.
The DualSense Edge, the safe bet
Honor to the official Sony controller. Released at the start of 2023, the DualSense Edge is the Pro version of the classic DualSense, the PS5 controller. For this iteration, Sony is betting on very extensive customization as well as increased repairability.
The DualSense Edge is the safe bet of the PS5 Pro controllers. Sony has not changed its formula, improving neither the buttons nor the grip. In reality, it’s in the personalization that the Edge draws its strength. It is indeed possible to easily remap the keys directly via its console. A dedicated and very easy to use software is installed from the first connection.
Even more, it is possible to add two buttons at the back, either in the shape of a half-moon or in the shape of a pedal, as desired. Ideal for football games, racing games or in MMOs. The resistance of the triggers can also be set.
Of course, the sticks can be modified at will. Convex models, with a more or less long foot, are provided and it is possible to configure their dead zone via the console software. The chef’s surprise is also the possibility of remove them completely from their case by dismantling the front. In the event of a drift, it is no longer necessary to change the entire controller. We like the care taken by Sony.
A transport bag, very resistant, is provided in the box. A good idea, this kind of product being often transported, whether for sessions with friends or in competitions.
On the other hand, we can deplore less autonomy than that of the classic DualSense, that is eight hours. Similarly, we would have liked Sony to show a little more madness in terms of design. It would not have been absurd for the manufacturer to offer personalized versions for those who want to have a single pad, as Microsoft does with its Elite. In short, a coherent, efficient controller, with impeccable finishes which is unfortunately not spared by some avoidable defects.

The SCUF Reflex, the fashion victim
For its Pro controller, SCUF had the idea of using the DualSense to modify it in depth. The focus is on design, since when ordering, the user can choose to personalize it as he wishes. This goes from the colors of all the parts of the pad (facades, buttons) to the texture of the handles and the shape of the sticks. We chose a lavender color, but there are many others! A real highlight for fans of customization who want to have a controller that stands out from the others. If desired, the user can also choose a basic model, black or white. Attention, each modification adds a few euros to the invoice which can very quickly go up
In addition to the traditional DualSense buttons, the SCUF Reflex adds four buttons on the back, well thought out and very responsive. They cannot be removed, unlike those of the Edge, but are very easily reconfigurable, without going through the software. All you have to do is keep pressing the profile button, then press the palette and the button you want to associate with it. Simple and practical.
Even more, SCUF offers three basic configurations (FPS, Racing, Sports) that can be modified at will. Like the Edge, the user can disassemble the front in order to change the sticks. On the other hand, it is not possible to remove them completely as on the Sony controller. In the event of a problem, the entire product must be changed.
Since we have a modified DualSense, the connection to the PS5 is extremely easy: just connect the pad to the console via the supplied wire. It will then be automatically associated. Autonomy, on the other hand, is similar to that of the classic PS5 controller. Likewise, haptic feedback and other features are present. WE love.
If it is above all a question of taste, we are not very fond of the grip, with handles a bit longer than those of the DualSense. During the purchase, it is possible to add a rubber coating for more comfort. We highly recommend it, as the added value is great. We can also regret the impossibility of adjusting the resistance of the triggers, as is the case on the Edge. Note that SCUF sells an “FPS” version of its pad with instant triggers. Too bad not to have everything included here. Finally, it must be admitted that in hand, the Reflex is a little “cheap” compared to the classic controller of the PS5. A shame for a product sold for more than 200 euros.
Remains an effective controller, highly customizable and which brings a real plus with its buttons on the back.
His strengths :
- The possibility of customizing its design
- An easy connection
- The four buttons on the back
- Rubber grips (optional)
Its weaknesses:
- The slightest modification to the order causes the price to explode
- A less pleasant grip than the DualSense
- The inability to adjust the triggers
- It is a little cheap for its price

The Razer Wolverine V2 Pro, the competitive
With the Wolverine V2 Pro, Razer is betting on efficiency. Let’s be honest, this pad is the best of the three in terms of handling. Whether it’s the shape of the controller or the texture of the grips (notched rubber here), everything has been thought out to offer maximum comfort. Even clinging to it in moments of tension, in FIFA or in Warzone, is not unpleasant. We also like its featherweight (279 grams) which makes it very valuable in competitive play.
Even more, Razer has done a very big job on the front buttons, since these have a stroke of 0.65 mm, i.e. 30% less compared to the classic DualSense. This makes it possible to have a shorter reaction time, and therefore to be more efficient.
We also note the appearance of two additional triggers as well as four buttons on the back, all programmable, of course. Cherry on the cake, the Wolverince has asymmetrical sticks, like on the Xbox controller. Something to delight those who (like us) prefer this configuration. It is possible to change them, in order to have a convex or longer stick, ideal for FPS.
In short, a controller that focuses on efficiency and competitiveness and that perfectly fulfills its mission. She is also the queen in terms of autonomy, since it lasts more than 20 hours by deactivating the LEDs.
However, this beautiful painting comes at the cost of a few concessions. The Wolverine V2 Pro does not have vibrations (hence its lightness), so no haptic feedback. That doesn’t make it an ideal companion for single player play. For the remapping of the keys (and the management of the RGB LEDs), you have to go through the Android or iOS application. We would have liked to at least go through the Razer Synapse software on PC, especially since the pad can also be used on this platform.
The Wolverine V2 Pro does not have an easy connection to the PS5, since you have to plug in a dongle to enjoy. The latter connects the controller in 2.4 Ghz, like the brand’s other PC peripherals (like the Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro). Inconvenient handling. You can also play wired, even if the supplied cable is too short (1 meter 20). Finally, we deplore the absence of a carrying bag, which is a bit of a shame for an object that will often be carried around.
His strengths :
- Excellent grip
- Responsive, efficient buttons and asymmetrical sticks
- Two additional triggers and four buttons on the back
- Excellent autonomy
Its weaknesses:
- You have to use a dongle
- No carrying bag
- You have to go through smartphone software to personalize it
- No vibration or haptic feedback
