what we know about the shots fired on the sidelines of the rally for the wounded in Sainte-Soline | NEWS

On the sidelines of the rally in support of the wounded in Sainte-Soline, organized on Thursday evening March 30 at the Place de l’hôtel de ville, in Paris (Centre), a resident of rue du Temple shot in the air with a dummy weapon , causing some fear in the neighborhood. Here’s what we know.

Like a slight wind of panic. Thousands of people gathered on the evening of Thursday March 30 near several prefectures in the country in support of the wounded in Sainte-Soline, “against repression” and “police violence”.

These gatherings were made at the call of the Les Uprisings of the Earth movement, the Bassines Non Merci collective and the Confédération paysanne, the three organizers of the banned demonstration of March 25 against the mega-basins in Deux-Sèvres.

In Paris, the demonstration, which brought together around 4,500 people on the Place de l’hôtel de ville (center), turned into wild processions and other small groups which swarmed in the heart of the capital in the evening.

A resident of rue du Temple, probably annoyed by the noise, in this context took out a weapon which turned out to be fake, and fired in the air. He then retreated to his home before being arrested.

The police chief reacts

“I was informed of this event since we managed it at the same time as the management of our wild procession. A man fired a firearm into the air. It was not an actual weapon. The man took refuge at his home and the police had to arrest him inside his apartment, ”said Laurent Nuñez, in La Matinale de CNEWS this Friday, the day after the events. However, the Paris police chief did not yet know the reasons which led this man to carry out this action.

However, a neighbor of the arrested individual reported, anonymously, to CNEWS what he experienced from the scene: “The demonstrators descended from the rue du Temple by the town hall. They started burning trash cans downstairs. Our neighbor didn’t like it and he came out with his fire extinguisher to put out the trash can and the demonstrators attacked him. They made him understand that if he extinguished garbage cans, he was a facho”. Participants in the wild protest then started running towards him and he reportedly got scared.

“He had a little dummy thing on him that made noise. He shot in the air to scare them, but that was it. So they confined us to our store, they blocked the street and they tried to get him out, but he couldn’t understand what he had done wrong. For him, it was self-defense, he claimed he was unarmed,” concluded the neighbor.
