According to the American site Variety, a television series adaptation of the science fiction film “Welcome to Gattaca” is in development at the Showtime channel. A fiction driven in particular by Craig Borten, the co-screenwriter of “Dallas Buyers Club”.

A hopefully ambitious project. The American site Variety announces that a series adaptation project of the science fiction film “Welcome to Gattaca” is currently under study at Showtime. Directed in 1997 by Andrew Niccol, with Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law in the main roles, this dystopia followed the story of Vincent Freeman, a young man who dreams of becoming an astronaut.

But in this futuristic world, only people with perfect genetic heritage can qualify for such a career. This is the case of Jérôme, who has perfect genetic capital. Unfortunately for him, an accident prevents him from pursuing his dream. He and Vincent then decide to set up a strategy in order to deceive the system of selection and detection set up by the elites.

It is the co-screenwriter of the film “Dallas Buyers Club”, Craig Borten, as well as Alex Ganza and Howard Gordon, known in particular for having co-created “Homeland”, who appear in the creation of the series. Nothing is known about the casting or the script. At the time of its theatrical release in 1997, “Welcome to Gattaca” had met with mixed success, before establishing itself as one of the best science fiction films of its generation in the following years.
