Three police officers died in a road accident in Villeneuve-d’Ascq (Nord), a fourth person died. The latest information.
[Mis à jour le 21 mai 2023 à 10h39] During the night from Saturday to Sunday, three police officers died in an accident on the departmental road 700, near Villeneuve d’Ascq, announced the union of National Police Commissioners in a tweet. According to the Nord prefecture, of which BFMTV Greater Lille echoed, “a national police vehicle and a second vehicle were involved in this fatal accident”, which confirms the death of the three officials from the Roubaix police station. A fourth occupant of the police car, a civilian, was seriously injured, and was “taken care of” and transferred to Roger Salengro hospital in Lille. The driver of the second accident vehicle died. His passenger was transported in absolute urgency to Lille hospital. “An investigation will determine the causes of the accident,” said the prefecture. According to the first elements, the two cars collided head-on, while the police car was transporting a civilian to a hospital.
On Twitter, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, reacted: “All my thoughts go to the families of the victims to whom I send my condolences. Full support for the injured”, referring to a “very serious traffic accident in the North”.
