One week from the end of the Premier League, Newcastle secured its place in the top 4 on Monday evening to qualify for the Champions League!
A year and a half after the takeover of the club by Saudi Arabia, Newcastle qualifies for the Champions League! Eddie Howe’s men were unable to dominate Leicester (0-0) on Monday evening, on behalf of the 37th and penultimate day, but secured the top 4, since they are 3rd in the standings with 4 points ahead of Liverpool, the 5th.
Newcastle has not played in the LDC since the 2002-2003 season and more precisely on March 19, 2003 and a defeat against Barça. The team led by Laurent Robert and Alan Shearer finished 3rd in their group during the second group stage of the competition. The residents of St James’ Park will be part of the hat 4 teams (and will not face Lens or OM if the Phocaeans qualify).
Leicester gave everything in this match because the Foxes of Boubakary Soumaré and Youri Tielemans are 18th and first relegated. They are forced to beat West Ham on Sunday, on the last day of the championship, to hope to overtake Everton, a 17th who receives Bournemouth (already maintained).
