Terrible disappointment for Hervé Renard and Les Bleues

The bad news is linked for the French women’s team, for whom the broadcasters definitely do not want to make an effort.

Women’s football is obviously not popular with broadcasters. The enthusiasm caused by the arrival of Hervé Renard at the head of the French team to replace Corinne Deacon was however accompanied by a record audience for a friendly match on the occasion of the clash against Canada, with 1.4 million viewers for the W9 channel. But two months before it kicks off, the World Cup in Australia still has no broadcaster. The fault of the 10 million euros claimed by FIFA according to the channels.

But to believe The Team, the problem is more general. The call for tenders launched by the French Football Federation for the TV rights for women’s football was indeed unsuccessful. The consultation concerned the matches of Les Bleues, the D1 Arkema as well as the Champions Trophy until 2027. After an initial eight-day postponement requested by the broadcasters, the channels had until May 12 to make their offers but according to L’Equipe, the latter did not meet the expectations of the FFF.

The leaders of French football are free to discuss over the counter with the interested channels but will not be in a position of strength. Broadcaster of the D1 Arkema, Canal+ currently pays 1.2 million euros per season while the M6 group pays some 4 million euros annually for the rights to the matches of Les Bleues.
