The Montpellier club have announced that the season of their Argentinian center half Diego Simonet is over, which means that he will notably miss the Final Four of the European League and the final of the Coupe de France.
It is without Diego Simonet that Montpellier will approach the last deadlines of their 2022-23 season! The Hérault club has indeed announced that its 33-year-old Argentinian international center half will not play again due to injury. “Diego’s season is over,” said his coach Patrice Canayer on Wednesday at a press conference. Simonet suffered a calf injury last Friday during Liqui Moly Starligue’s match against Istres. The MHB will therefore have to do without its Argentine star while it is still mathematically in the race for the title of champion of France, with the same number of points as the leader, PSG, but still two games to play (against Aix and Chambéry ) while the Parisians have three on their program (in St-Raphaël, against Nantes and in Aix).
Descat already back in training
But above all, Diego Simonet will miss the Final Four of the European League this weekend. This Friday, the Héraultais will face Fuchse Berlin (third in the German championship) in the semi-final in Flensburg (Germany), before a possible final on Sunday against Granollers (third in the Spanish championship) or Göppingen (14th in the Germany). Diego Simonet will also miss the final of the Coupe de France on June 10 against Nantes at the Accor Arena.
If the MHB wants to succeed in a collection of trophies at the end of the season, it will therefore be without the one who is running at 2.85 goals per game this season in the Starligue (with a record of 8 goals against Dunkirk in December) and who has already scored 50 goals in the European League. It should also be noted that the French international left winger Hugo Descat resumed training after his operation for a partial rupture of the cruciate ligament of the right knee at the beginning of March, but he is not yet ready to appear in the Montpellier squad for the Final Four, says Canayer. However, Free lunch says he practiced specifically 7m throws during Wednesday’s session. Could Descat create a surprise?
