FC Nantes secured their retention on the last day of Ligue 1 this Saturday, winning Angers (1-0) while AJ Auxerre lost to Lens (1-3).
After ten consecutive years in the elite, Nantes spared itself a real shipwreck this Saturday by tearing off its support during the 38e and last day of Ligue 1. 17e and last condemned at the kickoff of this ultimate lifting, the FCN saved itself by fulfilling its part of the contract in front of Angers while noting the failure of Auxerre against Lens at the same time.
Thanks to a Ganago scorer on a four-star service from Blas (1-0, 16e), the Canaries made the difference by the smallest of margins – a necessary but insufficient victory to turn things around at the expense of AJA. With a double from Claude-Maurice (19e48e) and a creation by Openda (78e), the Sang et Or reduced the Burgundian efforts to nothing and precipitated Auxerre – barely revived for a time by Niang (71e) – in Ligue 2 (1-3). For a small point, AJA therefore joins Angers, Ajaccio and Troyes in the relegated cart, in this exceptional season with four teams cut. Promoted during the last off-season, the Auxerrois had spent ten years in the antechamber of the elite following their previous relegation.
