Mbappé, the new pressure move

Before Auxerre-PSG, Kylian Mbappé saw Alexandre Lacazette join him at the top of the Ligue 1 scorer rankings.

It happened, this 26th goal. After his missed penalty in Clermont (2-1) last Sunday, Alexandre Lacazette made up for it by finding the net in Olympique Lyonnais’ victory against Monaco (3-1) on Friday evening.

So here is Lacazette who returns once again to match Kylian Mbappé at the top of the Ligue 1 scorers’ rankings, in a thrilling distance duel between the two men. Offering this individual trophy to the Bondynois is the second major objective of Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the championship, with of course the validation of the title of champion of France. But Lacazette confirms that he will not leave Mbappé alone on this ground.

However, there is nothing to panic for the Parisian. Mbappé still has the upper hand in this race, since he has three matches left to play, against two at Lacazette, and he can therefore regain control this Sunday evening if he scores in Auxerre. In addition, the LFP now gives him a small advantage, since Mbappé has scored fewer penalties (2 against 6) and delivered more assists (5 against 4) than Lacazette.

As a reminder, Mbappé is in the running to achieve the pass of five in the scorer rankings, he who has been crowned top scorer in the championship over the last four seasons. He could match legendary strikers Delio Onnis, Carlos Bianchi and Jean-Pierre Papin, the only three top scorers in the history of the French championship. Only “JPP” achieved this performance five years in a row, between 1987 and 1992, with OM.
