A total of 1,539 officers and civilian staff either had complaints made against them or were involved in conduct cases for violence against women and girls between October 2021 and March 2022.

However, only 13 — or 0.87 per cent — were sacked.

The complaints were levelled against 867 officers, while another 672 individuals were involved in the conduct cases relating to violence against women and girls.

A third of those conduct cases involved allegations of sexual assault and harassment.

She said: “It reinforces the urgency of our mission to lift the stones and root abusers and corrupt individuals out of policing.”

Harriet Wistrich, of the Centre for Women’s Justice, said: “I hope the greater understanding generated by this report will ultimately result in radical reform.”
