Laurent Jalabert affected by a tragedy

Laurent Jalabert paid a poignant tribute to Philippe Crépel, former runner and leader.

The world of French cycling is in mourning. Former professional runner and French leader, Philippe Crépel died this Sunday at the age of 78, swept away by the consequences of a long illness, only five months after the death of one of his two sons, Marc.

The former rider from the Pelforth team had a modest career. Evidenced by his last place in his first Paris-Roubaix, which will have given him a certain popularity. But after racing alongside Luis Ocana, Jan Janssen or; Jean-Marie Leblanc, Philippe Crépel made himself known above all by launching the La Redoute-Motobécane team in 1979 and then by being part of the La Vie Claire adventure.

Thank you for everything you brought me

And before working on the opening of cycling by participating in the launch of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo, Philippe Crépel was also an agent, in particular for Richard Virenque and Laurent Jalabert. The latter has also paid tribute to the former runner on social networks.

» It took at least 180 terminals to pay tribute to you today Dear Philippe… I find it so hard to believe that you are already gone… We spent so much time together, shared so many beautiful things, he thus wrote. You, the great bike lover! How will we miss you! What will I miss you. Fate has been fierce in recent months… Obviously, my thoughts today go to Laurent and Martine. I wholeheartedly agree with them. Rest in peace my friend. Thank you for everything you have given me. »
