Disaster confirmed for the French at Roland-Garros

There will be no French in the 3rd round. Océane Dodin, the last Habs in the race, did not weigh heavily this Thursday against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who left the Northerner no chance.

The 2nd round is still not over that there is already no French player in the race. The day after Caroline Garcia’s new disappointment and a few hours after Diane Parry in turn drank the cup prematurely, Océane Dodin did no better than her compatriots. The last tricolor survivor had in front of her the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who is one of the favorites of the tournament, and the world number 7 hampered in recent weeks by a calf injury did not give details against the Northerner, swept away in two small sets (6-2, 6-3) after a one-sided meeting which lasted only 1h12.

Already impressive in the previous round for her entry into the running in this tournament which saw her reach the round of 16 twice (in 2020 and 2021), against the Italian Lucia Bronzetti, to whom she had left only five games there too (6-4, 6-1), Jabeur quickly cracked the 26-year-old player ranked 122nd in the world. Led 3-1, Dodin had the merit of not collapsing, and of managing to immediately reduce the gap against the one who had carried away the public of the Philippe-Chatrier court in her wave of amortizations against the young Italian.

Dodin hangs on then lets go again

The Frenchwoman, certain of having nothing to lose, to use her words, and who was eager to find herself facing the former runner-up to Iga Swiatek in the standings with the hope of creating the feat, no longer then existed in this first round, won 6-2 by the double Grand Slam finalist (she had reached the last step at Wimbledon and then at the US Open last season). As in the first set, Dodin tried to hold on in the second set when the Tunisian led 2-0.

Pushed by the public, our last representative did better, returning to 2-2 and then still being able to dream of signing the sensation, at 3-3. Dodin did not score a single game afterwards. The seeded number 7 will be opposed to the Serbian Danilovic (105th), also largely on the ropes of the one who now aims after two finals to lift in the Grand Slam. The French are far from it. They won’t even see the 3rd round.
