A relative told the outlet the children had played with the two dogs before without any problem.

She said the two dogs savaged the child in front of his sisters and mum “for no known reason”.

“He’s the most precious and beautiful kid, no one can believe it’s happened to him,” a relative said.

NSW Police Superintendent Bob Noble said: “The child’s mother, who was with the child, was distraught, as you could imagine.

“It’s a very sensitive issue … we’re very concerned for the family and relatives, we just want to extend some understanding to the community at this time.”

Police said the two dogs have been seized by the local council while a crime scene has been cordoned off with police tape at the motel.
