Police Arrest Suspect In Kerinci Car Theft

Police in Kerinci, Jambi have apprehended a university student suspected of vehicle fraud after the student failed to return a rented car on time. The arrest was made following a police report filed by the vehicle owner in early February 2026.

The suspect, identified only by initials DEJ (25), allegedly rented the car from the owner and did not return it as agreed. This prompted the victim to report the case to local authorities.

Police acted swiftly on the car theft report, moving from a formal complaint to an arrest within weeks, showing the seriousness with which they treat vehicle fraud in the region.

The Incident That Triggered The Police Report

According to the Kerinci Police Public Relations officer, Iptu DS Sitinjak, the case unfolded when the victim noticed the car was not returned after the rental period ended.

The victim then submitted a police report (LP/B/9/II/2026/SPKT/Polres Kerinci/Polda Jambi) on 4 February 2026, citing concerns about potential vehicle fraud.

This formal complaint set the legal process in motion, prompting investigators to begin tracking down the suspect and gathering evidence.

Law enforcement officers located DEJ at his residence in Dusun Baru, Siulak District, Kerinci late on Friday (6/3/2026) around 10:00 p.m.
